Splash Universe - Shipshewana, Indiana

Splash Universe is an indoor waterpark located in the heart of Amish country in northern Indiana.  The hotel itself is decorated with Amish charm and furniture but offers all of the modern ammenities of an indoor waterpark.

Typically when we go somewhere I book all rooms online since websites typically offer the best deals. However this time we decided to give the hotel a call to make reservations instead of booking through the website.  When we called they offered us a package that was not available online and saved us around $90 on the room. Our package included our room on Saturday night, our breakfast on Sunday morning, and two days admission to the water park for five people for $169 plus tax.

When you reserve a room at Splash Universe your room will not be available until 4:00 PM but you may arrive as early as noon that day to begin enjoying the water park.  The waterpark offers locker rooms where you can change into your swimsuit and begin enjoying the water park.

The water park at Splash Universe is very nice but it is also very small compared to many other indoor waterparks.  If you have been to a Great Wolf Lodge water park do not expect it to be as big as Great Wolf Lodge.

The water park offers a small splash pool for infants and toddlers, a play area for kids, a lazy river, family spa, lily pad crossing, two large water slides, and an adults only hot tub.

Splash Universe offers lots and lots of kids activities for free throughout the day.  During our visit our kids enjoyed crafts, games, fingernail painting, and a family dance at night.

Here's what you need to know to make the best of your trip:
  • The water park is small but is still worth the trip if you are going to be in the area.  Since the water park is small it is less crowded than other water parks and it is easier to keep up with your kids.
  • While we were there the main restaurant in the hotel was under construction.  This left only the ice cream shop and the water park's concession stand for food choices in the hotel.  The water park's concession stand is extremely well priced.
  • The water park is located in Amish country, there is not a lot around the hotel as far as entertainment, or food.  This was a downside for us.  What is around the hotel closes early.
  • Again, there are lots of activities for the kids onsite.
Here's how we rated Splash Universe:
We all enjoyed our trip but we went to Shipshewana solely for Splash Universe.  I don't know if it was completely worth the trip for this reason.  If you are going to be in the area or are going to visit some of the other attractions in the area than this is a great place to go.  The kids loved the water park, as there was plenty for them to do at the water park and the lines for the slides were not long at all.  My husband particularly enjoyed the adults only hot tub.
